Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.)

cert training

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.

In 2011 we conducted our 8th CERT class and now have over 150 members ready to help our community when needed.

If you are interested in learning more about CERT please contact Officer Rick DePaola at (561) 746-6201 ext. 2378 or email RickD@jupiter.fl.us

C.E.R.T. on Patrol

The Jupiter Police department is proud to introduce its C.E.R.T. On Patrol (COP) program. C.E.R.T.(Community Emergency Response Team) members are citizens that have already received specialized training in responding to critical incidents and assisting the community by responding to the immediate needs of the situation. C.E.R.T. members have received training in damage assessment, light search and rescue, victim triage, first aid, and CPR.

The C.E.R.T. On Patrol program provides an opportunity for these well trained volunteers to further assist the community by partnering with police in accomplishing our mission of a safer and more secure Jupiter. COP members will be trained in recognizing criminal opportunities and suspicious circumstances and reporting them to officers. COP members will utilize specially marked vehicles to patrol Jupiter neighborhoods and provide extra eyes for the police department.

Much of the C.E.R.T. On Patrol unit’s function is to reduce crime and improve overall quality of life by increasing the effectiveness of police. Using issued cell phones, team members are able to communicate directly with our Communications Division and report suspicious activity, events, vehicles and people as well as crimes in progress.
All members have completed 28 hours of C.E.R.T. training and 24 hours of our Citizens Police Academy. They are also required to complete an 8 hour ride-a-long with a police officer and attend additional ongoing training throughout the year.
The Jupiter Police Department welcomes these volunteers that are willing to devote their time and energy to being our partners in preventing crime and improving the community.
