History at Riverbend Park
Walking Tour of the Second Seminole War Battlefields with Richard Procyk at Riverbend Park

Osceola

"History in the Park" is a series of talks and a walking tour of the Loxahatchee Battlefield led by Richard Procyk, author of "Guns Across the Loxahatchee."

The two battles of the Loxahatchee River took place here in Jupiter during the Second Seminole War - January 15 and 24th, 1838. Almost lost to history, until local historians rediscovered the battlefield, is now saved and is part of Jupiter's local history.

The park is one of the most significant multi-level historic sites in Palm Beach County. Besides the military component, there is evidence within the park of a continual time line of prehistoric and historic habitation, dating as far back as the Archaic Period, over 5,000 years ago.

During the Historic Period, a Seminole Village on the Loxahatchee River was attacked by US forces, which included the army and navy, in the last two standing battles of the Second Seminole War.

Go back in time and join us as we stroll over these historic lands where figures from American History once tread. The Seminoles call this land sacred.

Reservations are required and tours are limited to 50 people.
